Music Department
The South Windsor Public Schools Music Department believes music education is an integral part of educating the whole child and preparing students to participate in an ever-changing global society. The standards-based music curriculum develops artistically literate citizens who can collaborate, communicate and think critically while working toward their true creative potential. Through the study and performance of music, students will also understand and demonstrate the core tenets of the Portrait of a Graduate: Engaged, Socially Conscious, Resilient, and Empowered.

The mission of the music department is to provide each student with:

The necessary skills to become musically literate
  Opportunities for public performances
An appreciation for and understanding of the societal, cultural, artistic, and emotional connections we share through music
An opportunity to develop necessary life skills: self-discipline, empathy, self-expression, resiliency, responsibility, patience, and teamwork
The desire to be life-long learners who appreciation and encourage music as a means of expression and creativity
Opportunities for cross-curricular and cross-cultural experiences and learning
A means to interact with students of other abilities and backgrounds
